Copying a weekly schedule as unassigned shifts lets you reuse the structure of a week's roster, the shifts themselves, without carrying over who was assigned to them. The result is a clean template of open (unassigned) shifts that you can staff as needed. This behavior is controlled by a setting in the Roster General Configuration.
Before you start: configure the settings
The unassigned-shift behavior is governed by the Conflict Handling for Copy Shifts setting in the Roster General Configuration, which must be set to Create as Unassigned Shifts. For the steps to configure this, refer to the Roster General Configuration article.
Note: With Create as Unassigned Shifts selected, shifts are copied into the target week as unassigned (open) shifts instead of being skipped. With Do Not Create Conflicting Shifts selected, conflicting shifts are skipped during the copy instead.
When enabled:
• An unassigned shift is created using the same date, time, break, Shift Type, and Shift Group as the original shift.
• The conflicting employee assignment is removed.
• The shift remains available for reassignment by the Shift Manager.
• A copy summary is displayed showing the number of shifts copied, created as empty shifts, or skipped.
Copy the schedule
Step 01 - Confirm the Conflict Handling for Copy Shifts setting is set to Create as Unassigned Shifts (see the configuration article linked above).
Step 02 - Navigate to the Roster module and open the Weekly view for the week you want to copy.
Step 03 - Use the Copy option and select the target week.
Note: An empty shift has no employee assigned to it. You can assign an employee to it at any time. This option ensures conflicting shifts are preserved on the roster rather than silently dropped during the copy.
Step 04 - Confirm the copy. The shifts are recreated in the target week as unassigned (open) shifts, with no employees assigned.
Once the shifts are in place, you can assign employees to each open shift as required.
Note: Copying as unassigned shifts is useful for building a reusable weekly template. Once the shifts are in place, you can assign employees to each open shift as required.
