Ensuring secure data transfer between biometric devices and OrangeHRM
This guide shows you how to confirm that your biometric device is using the correct server address, and how to turn on SSL so that attendance data reaches OrangeHRM over an encrypted connection. It takes about ten minutes.
Before you start
- You need the admin PIN or password for the device menu. Without it, the menu will not open.
- Navigation: press M/OK to open the Main Menu and to select an item, the arrow keys to move and ESC to go back a level.
- Photograph each screen before and after you change it. If something does not work afterwards, these photos let our team pinpoint the cause quickly.
Step 1 — Open Cloud Server Setting
- From the start screen, press M/OK to open the Main Menu.
- Move to COMM. and press M/OK.
- Move down to Cloud Server Setting and press M/OK.
- Photograph the screen before you change anything.
Main Menu > COMM. | COMM. > Cloud Server Setting |
Step 2 — Check the server address
Domain Name should be set to On, and Server Address should be 2xapi.camsbiometrics.com. The same address is used for both HTTP and HTTPS, so it does not change when you turn on SSL.
To correct the address: move to Server Address and press M/OK. The field turns green while you edit it. Type the address, then press M/OK to save.
Domain Name is on, and the Server Address is correct.
Step 3 — Turn on SSL
Once SSL is enabled, the device switches to the correct HTTPS port on its own. There is no port to set.
- On the same screen, move down to Enable SSL. Some firmware versions label this row HTTPS.
- Press M/OK. The field turns green.
- Change the value to On and press M/OK to save.
- Check that the Server Address is still correct, then press ESC until you are back at the start screen. The device reconnects on its own.
- Photograph the screen showing SSL set to On.
Enable SSL, before the change | Enable SSL switched On |
If there is no Enable SSL row on your device Not every model supports this setting. If Cloud Server Setting shows only Domain Name and Server Address, your firmware does not support SSL, and attendance data is currently being sent over HTTP without encryption. Photograph the screen, then contact your device vendor with your device model and firmware version. The vendor can update the firmware to enable SSL support. If no firmware update is available for your model, the device will need to be replaced with one that supports SSL before attendance data can be transmitted securely. |
Step 4 — Check the device clock
The device takes its time from CAMS, so an incorrect clock usually means the connection has not come back.
- Wait five minutes for the device to reconnect.
- Compare the clock on the start screen with your phone. They should match within a few seconds.
- If they do not match, go to Main Menu > System > Date Time, photograph the screen, and send it to us.
Main Menu > System > Date Time | The stored date and time |
Do not adjust the time on the device That screen only shows the time currently stored on the device. Setting it by hand will not fix a mismatch, because CAMS will reset it. Send us the photograph instead, and we will investigate from our end. |
Step 5 — Make a test punch
- Punch on the device and note the exact time.
- Check that the device shows Verified with the correct time.
- If the device is integrated with OrangeHRM, wait two minutes, then open OrangeHRM and find that punch.
- Confirm it appears at the right time. If it is off by exactly one hour or several hours, that requires further verification rather than a failed connection — send us the details.
A successful punch, showing the recorded time | Back at the start screen, clock correct |
You are done when
- Enable SSL shows On, and the Server Address is unchanged.
- The device clock matches your phone.
- Your test punch appears in OrangeHRM at the correct time.
If punches stop reaching OrangeHRM Set Enable SSL back to Off (Main Menu > COMM. > Cloud Server Setting). This restores the connection straight away so attendance data keeps flowing. Then contact us with your photographs, the time of your test punch, and what OrangeHRM shows. We will work out why SSL is not connecting and get it switched on with you. |
