Disabling NTP on your biometric device
Your biometric device receives its time from the CAMS server. NTP is a separate device setting that lets the device fetch the time from an internet time server as well.
This guide shows you how to turn NTP off so that CAMS is the only source of time on the device. It takes about ten minutes, and nothing changes for your employees.
Before you start
- You need the admin PIN or password for the device menu. Without it, the menu will not open.
- Navigation: press M/OK to open the Main Menu, use the arrow keys to move, and press ESC to go back a level.
- Photograph each screen before and after you change it. If something does not work afterwards, these photos let our team pinpoint the cause quickly.
Step 1 — Turn off NTP
- From the start screen, press M/OK to open the Main Menu.
- Move to COMM. and press M/OK, then open the Server entry.
- Move to the NTP row and press M/OK. The field turns green while you edit it.
- Change the value to Off and press M/OK to save.
- Press ESC until you are back at the start screen.
- Photograph the screen showing NTP set to Off.
Leave NTP Server and Sync Interval as they are. Once NTP is Off, the device no longer uses them.

If you cannot find the NTP row The location varies by firmware. Look under COMM. inside Server, under Cloud Server Settings, or under Time Settings. If it is not in any of those, photograph the screen you were looking at and send it to us with your device model and firmware version. Some devices don’t have the NTP settings. |
Step 2 — Check the device clock
The device now takes its time entirely from CAMS, so this check confirms the connection is working.
- Wait five minutes for the device to reconnect.
- Compare the clock on the start screen with your phone. They should match within a few seconds.
- If they do not match, go to Main Menu > System > Date Time, photograph the screen, and send it to us.
Main Menu > System > Date Time | The stored date and time |
Do not adjust the time on the device That screen only shows the time currently stored on the device. Setting it by hand will not fix a mismatch, because CAMS will reset it. Send us the photograph instead, and we will investigate from our end. |
Step 3 — Make a test punch
- Punch on the device and note the exact time.
- Check that the device shows Verified with the correct time.
- If the device is integrated with OrangeHRM, then open OrangeHRM and find that punch.
- Confirm it appears at the right time. If it is off by exactly one hour or several hours, that requires verification rather than the NTP setting, so send us the details.
- Delete or correct the test punch in OrangeHRM afterwards, so it does not affect that employee’s attendance record.

You are done when
- NTP shows Off on the device.
- The device clock matches your phone.
- Your test punch appears in OrangeHRM at the correct time.
A factory reset or a firmware reinstall can switch NTP back on, so check this setting again after either one.
If the clock or the punch is still wrong Do not set the time by hand on the device, and do not turn NTP back on. Contact us with your photographs, the time of your test punch, what OrangeHRM shows for it, and your device model and firmware version. We will investigate from our end. |
