Other is one of the default reporting methods in Report-to, along with Direct and Indirect. It describes the relationship between a supervisor and a subordinate. Choosing Other doesn't grant or restrict any permissions by itself. However, anyone you add as a supervisor becomes that employee's supervisor in OrangeHRM, whichever reporting method you choose, including Other.
How it works
- Supervisor access: Every Report-to relationship counts as a supervisor relationship, whatever its reporting method. What a supervisor can see and do is set by the Supervisor user role permissions, not by the reporting method.
-
Where the reporting method matters: Some features look for a specific reporting method.
- Performance: Review templates and appraisals that assign the review to the employee's supervisor use a selected reporting method, which is Direct by default. Only the supervisor with that method is picked as the evaluator. A supervisor linked as Other isn't picked unless Other is the selected method.
- Organization chart: When the chart is built from the reporting hierarchy, you choose Direct or Indirect, so relationships recorded as Other don't appear in it.
- In other areas, the reporting method is shown as a label on the employee's Report-to screen and in reports.
How to change or add reporting methods
Go to Employee Management > Employee List and open the employee.
Step 1 - Select More > Report-to.
Step 2 - Click the edit icon next to the supervisor or subordinate, choose a different Reporting Method, and then click Save.
Step 3 - To add your own reporting methods alongside Direct, Indirect and Other, go to Employee Management > More > Configurations > Reporting Methods.
Things to note
- If you want someone to be recorded against an employee without getting supervisor access, don't add them in Report-to. Adding them under Other still gives them supervisor access.
- To change what supervisors can access, edit the Supervisor role under HR Administration > Manage User Roles. This applies to all supervisors.
- Adding, changing or removing a supervisor requires permission for the Supervisors and Subordinates data groups.
