A medium to large-scale company generally handles various projects with different timelines and deadlines. This scenario is highly relatable to software companies, IT consultancy companies, digital marketing companies, construction companies, and many more. Project managers play a key role in managing these projects and allocating resources efficiently to ensure that they finish the project within the given project time frame. The concern that most project managers face is tracking the time spent on each activity of a project. OrangeHRM addressed this issue in an effective manner through the ‘Project Time’ feature. This feature gives the ability to track the time spent on each activity of past and ongoing projects This will help the project manager to analyze and identify for which activity they have spent the most / least amount of time. Project Time Report helps project managers to make critical project decisions and improve performance.
This feature is available to the Admin and Supervisors. The Admin can view reports for all projects and the Supervisors can view reports of projects administered by them or projects assigned to them.
To view project reports go to Reports and Analytics and expand the Time Tracking and select Project Time Report. The ‘Project Report’ screen is displayed as follows.
Step 1: Complete the above fields to generate a report and view it.

Note :
The Project time report has multi-select filters for customers, cost centers, and projects. The items listed as projects, depend on the filter values which are selected for customer and cost center.
As an example, If customer 'A' and the cost center 'X' is selected in the filters, the filters will only list the results of projects of the customer 'A' and cost center 'X'
Step 2 – Click ‘View’. Upon clicking ‘View’ the user can view all the activities relating to that particular project and the total time spent on each activity of that project.
Also, this report supports multiple levels of data drill down. When a user selects a project from the pie chart, the system navigates to the second level of data.
As an example, if you are a project manager in XYZ company and handling three projects as below:
- ABC Ltd - Project 1
- Discovery Communications, Inc. - JES Software
- Electronic Data Systems - Global Software
You need to provide the time spent on each of your team members to Management. To cater to the requirement, now simply you can get the information via the report and visualize the stats in a pie chart.
As per the example given above, when a user selects a project, “Apache Software Foundation - ASF - Phase 1” from the chart, the system will direct the user to the activities which are listed for the selected project with the overall percentages regarding time spent for each activity.
As per the above example, the following are the activities that are listed under the “Apache Software Foundation - ASF - Phase 1” project.
Step 3 - Click the project from the pie chart.
Here, you can see the activities incorporated into that project and the time spent on the activities.
